Tehran Braces for Renewed Hostilities
TEHRAN — Nearly nine months after initial U.S. and Israeli operations plunged the region into crisis, the ongoing standoff between Washington and Tehran has hardened into an uneasy stalemate. Now, Iranian military commanders are issuing stark warnings that the country is fully prepared for a prolonged conflict, cautioning that any renewed military offensive by the Trump administration will be met with unprecedented asymmetric retaliation.
Over the past month, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has significantly ramped up its public posture. Officials claim to have amassed substantial stockpiles of new weaponry, threatening to take the fight well beyond regional borders if hostilities resume. Among the unconventional targets floated by Iranian planners are undersea internet cables, critical artificial intelligence data centers, and key energy infrastructure across the Middle East.
”The world will be amazed,” declared IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi. “We have new targets that have not yet been attacked. The war is not over. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has prepared itself for a long-term war.”
A Strategic Standoff
The current crisis stems from a conflict that began earlier this year, which has since deteriorated into a high-stakes war of attrition. While Washington highlights the severe military and infrastructural damage inflicted on the Iranian regime, Tehran continues to frame its mere survival as a strategic victory, resisting ongoing White House pressures for capitulation through economic strangulation and military threats.
In response to Tehran’s defiant posturing, U.S. military planners have reportedly formulated advanced contingency strike options. These potential measures include the deployment of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb targeting residual Iranian nuclear facilities and energy hubs should President Donald Trump order a fresh wave of combat operations.
Senior Iranian military officials have publicly brushed off these tactical considerations as psychological warfare. Dismissing Washington’s latest threats, Iranian army commander Alireza Sheikh remarked, “These are propaganda tools intended to intimidate the Iranian people. The Iranian people are the father of all bombs.”
Anxiety on the Streets of Tehran
While military and political elites trade barbs, the human cost of the protracted stalemate weighs heavily on everyday citizens. Across the Iranian capital, residents are once again stocking up on essential supplies, emergency power banks, and drinking water amid widespread fears that airstrikes could resume without warning.
”Every single day and every night, we’re waiting for the bombing to start again,” shared one 70-year-old Tehran resident. “I’ve charged all my power banks, stocked up on water, and got everything ready, because the attacks could start again at any moment.”
For many families caught in the geopolitical crossfire, the rationale behind a potential escalation remains deeply baffling. A local mother of two voiced the mounting public frustration: “I would like to know exactly what else the U.S. is planning to bomb? They couldn’t even take the leadership out, and negotiations failed. So, what’s the point of starting another war?”
As diplomatic channels remain frozen and both governments refuse to yield ground, international observers warn that the risk of miscalculation remains dangerously high, threatening to drag the wider region into another violent cycle.
