WASHINGTON — In a surprise announcement that sent ripples across Wall Street and social media, billionaire Elon Musk declared on Monday that he will distribute a share of his aerospace and artificial intelligence giant, SpaceX, to every minor in the United States.
”Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk posted on X, adding, “This will be the first of many”.
The sweeping pledge, which currently lacks operational and logistical frameworks regarding eligibility or distribution mechanics, targets a demographic of roughly 73 million individuals under the age of 18, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. With SpaceX stock closing at $146.03 ahead of the announcement, the total value of the proposed giveaway scales past $10.6 billion.
A Counter-Strategy to Corporate Funds
The high-stakes proposition did not materialize in a vacuum. It arrived as a direct pushback against artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, which announced a plan to allocate 5 percent of its equity—valued near $48 billion—into a centralized “Public Benefit Fund” designed to offset societal disruptions prompted by rapid artificial intelligence growth.
Critiquing Anthropic’s managed-fund approach, Musk argued on X that corporate equity intended for public welfare should bypass bureaucratic intermediaries and flow straight into the hands of citizens.
The headline-grabbing announcement follows a landmark year for SpaceX, which made its public debut on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol SPCX.
Questions Linger Over Feasibility
While public reaction has been a mix of excitement and skepticism, financial analysts note that Musk’s blueprint remains entirely conceptual. Key details—such as whether distribution will factor in custodial accounts, age cutoffs, or verification procedures—have yet to be addressed by SpaceX representatives.

As public scrutiny over the rapid integration of artificial intelligence and tech monopolies intensifies, Musk’s multi-billion dollar pledge injects a radical new philosophy into corporate philanthropy—favoring direct asset distribution over institutional oversight.
