Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has denied allegations contained in an alleged leaked audio that has circulated widely on social media, saying she never made the statements attributed to her and challenging anyone with proof to come forward.

The alleged audio, which has been shared across multiple platforms, purportedly features the actress making comments about Oluwabamise, a young woman whose death generated significant public outrage.

Critics accused Abraham of laughing at the deceased’s family and of claiming to have prior knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the death.

The audio was widely circulated on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), prompting hundreds of comments from users who expressed disappointment and anger at the actress.

THE DENIAL

In a TikTok video posted on Friday night, Abraham was emphatic.

“I never said I knew about the late Oluwabamise’s death,” she said. “I never mocked her family. I never laughed at them. This is fake news, and it is being spread by people who want to tarnish my image”.

She added: “I beg you in the name of God. If you have the audio, bring it out. Let the world hear it. If I said those things, let me face the consequences”.

She challenged those circulating the audio to provide evidence that she made the statements attributed to her.

THE BACKLASH

Despite her denial, the backlash continued on Saturday.

“Most of you have said so many things. Most of you said you are no longer my fan. I resign as your fan. I am not happy about the way some people are trying to cancel me over something I did not say,” Abraham said in a separate post.

She said the abuse had extended to her family and that she was considering legal action against those spreading the audio.

WHY IT MATTERS

The episode underscores the power of social media to amplify unverified claims, particularly against public figures.

Abraham is a prominent Nollywood actress with a large following. The allegation against her that she mocked a deceased woman’s family is deeply damaging to her reputation.

Her decision to publicly deny the audio and challenge her accusers is a high-stakes move. If the audio is proven to be false, those circulating it may face legal consequences.

f it is proven to be authentic, her denial will deepen the damage.
