Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he has been living with diabetes since 1996, saying his decades of experience with the condition have taught him to understand his health better than some doctors.
The disclosure was made during an appearance on the Africana List podcast, where the actor also addressed criticism of his decision to attend social events despite his health challenges.
THE REVELATION
“Someone is sick, but Jide Kosoko went to a party. Why shouldn’t I go, what’s my offence? I’ve been diabetic since 1996 to date. I’ve been managing it. And I continue to take care of myself because I don’t want to die,” Kosoko said.
He added: “I understand my health better than some doctors do. Do not misquote me. I am not saying I know how to do everything, I just do not want to die”.
THE COLONOSCOPY
Kosoko also disclosed that he recently underwent a colonoscopy, a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the large intestine for abnormalities, including signs of cancer.
“Recently I heard there’s a new test colonoscopy. They wanted to check everywhere to see if cancer is developing in any part of my body. It’s done every five years. They put you to sleep,” he said.
WHY IT MATTERS
Kosoko’s disclosure is a reminder that diabetes is a manageable condition, but it requires constant vigilance and self-care.
His decision to speak openly about his health may encourage others living with chronic conditions to prioritise their wellbeing and seek regular medical check-ups.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Kosoko continues to manage his health while remaining active in Nollywood.
