A quarrel over a drinking glass has ended with a Nigerian father of two dead in Pretoria.
The Nigerian Union in South Africa says Olatunde Olaleye, 40, from Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State, was shot on September 21 while working at Spanata Bar and Grills in Mamelodi.
NUSA President-General Smart Nwobi said Olaleye was allegedly shot by a South African national after an argument over whether a glass should be taken outside the bar.
The union said the alleged shooter reportedly returned to the premises and threatened management.
NUSA has called for a thorough and impartial investigation. The Nigerian diplomatic mission in South Africa has also been urged to engage the country’s authorities.
The case comes against the background of earlier concerns about the safety of Nigerians in South Africa.
