The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched an aggressive, coordinated manhunt for unidentified gunmen who abducted three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. at the Living Seed Lodge, an off-campus hostel situated in a remote, bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community in Lafia.
Rapid Police Response
Following a distress call from the university’s Chief Security Officer, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol units, and various intelligence assets to the scene.
The swift mobilization of security operatives into the surrounding forest area resulted in the successful rescue of one of the three abducted students. Authorities are now focusing their efforts on locating the remaining two victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
Command Assurances
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, issued a statement on Wednesday reaffirming the police’s commitment to the safe recovery of the remaining students. The Commissioner has directed that all operational units sustain the pressure on the kidnappers until the rescue operation is fully concluded.
”No effort will be spared in bringing the criminals to justice,” the statement read. The police have appealed to the public to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to share credible information that may aid the investigation. Residents are further advised to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station immediately.
This incident has raised fresh concerns regarding the security of students living in isolated, off-campus accommodations, prompting calls for improved surveillance in residential areas surrounding the university.
