Adeleke’s Camp Challenges Osun Police Over Failed Assassination Plot

​The Imole Campaign Council, representing the re-election bid of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has formally challenged the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to release the unedited video footage of the recent parade of suspects linked to a failed assassination plot against Mr. Wole Oke, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council.

​In a statement issued Saturday by Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the council’s Media Committee, the group expressed deep skepticism regarding the official narrative provided by the police. The council cited “credible intelligence” suggesting significant inconsistencies in the case and demanded that the footage be made public to ensure transparency and public scrutiny.

​”If the Osun State Police Command has absolutely nothing to hide, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan should have no difficulty whatsoever releasing the complete and unedited video footage of that press briefing,” the statement read. The council further warned that continued concealment of details could fuel public suspicion of bias, suggesting that if the demand is not met, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, should immediately initiate an independent investigation.

​The call for transparency follows the arrest of three individuals—Olalekan Oriyomi, Ayotunde Ikupolati, and Femi Fakinleye—paraded on Thursday by the Osun State Police Command. Authorities allege the trio attempted to assassinate Wole Oke, the current member of the House of Representatives for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, during his visit to the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesa palace.

​Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan indicated that an English Beretta pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the suspects. Reports further suggest that one of the suspects, Oriyomi, allegedly confessed to receiving his weapon from an associate currently at large, while also implicating “influential figures” who remain under police investigation.

​Escalating Political Climate

​The incident has intensified the political atmosphere in Osun State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. The APC has simultaneously criticized Governor Adeleke for his perceived silence regarding the attack, with the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, labeling the governor’s stance as “evasive.”
