A high-powered presidential delegation has arrived in Oyo State to coordinate rescue efforts and reassure affected communities following the abduction of about 46 pupils and teachers by armed men in Oriire Local Government Area.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, includes the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Tunde Disu; the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa; Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe; and the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare.
The team is expected to visit Esiele and Yawota communities, where gunmen reportedly raided Baptist Nursery and Primary School and other locations, whisking away pupils and teachers.
According to Sunday Dare, who disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday, President Bola Tinubu has activated a coordinated response aimed at securing the victims’ release and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
“A powerful Presidential Delegation just arrived Ogbomoso en route to the villages of Esiele and Yawota where armed men simultaneously raided Baptist Nursery and Primary schools seizing about 46 pupils and teachers,” Dare wrote.
He added that the President had directed security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The incident has sparked anxiety across Oyo State and beyond, with families of the abducted victims appealing to authorities to expedite efforts to secure their safe return.
Security agencies have yet to provide an official update on the victims’ whereabouts, but rescue operations are ongoing.
