MAPOLY Enforces Campus-Wide Okada Ban Over Security Concerns

​ABEOKUTA – In a decisive move to curb rising criminal activities, the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has strictly reinforced its ban on the operation and movement of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, within the institution’s campus.

​The security directive, which also restricts tinted and unmarked vehicles from accessing the campus, comes on the heels of a noticeable spike in property theft, alongside proactive measures to eliminate potential threats of kidnapping and other security breaches often facilitated by unauthorized transport operators.

​According to a formal statement signed by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, ‘Yemi Ajibola, the reinforcement aligns with global best practices for securing academic environments and safeguarding the lives of students, staff, and visitors.

​To ensure strict compliance, the institution’s internal security unit has intensified stop-and-search operations at all entry and exit points. Security personnel are thoroughly vetting vehicles to maintain a watertight perimeter against illicit actors.

​Acknowledging the logistical impact this enforcement might have on the campus community, the MAPOLY management has approved alternative, regulated transportation systems. Fully vetted tricycles (Keke Marwa) and designated intra-campus cab services will now handle student and staff commutes from the main polytechnic gate to various points across the campus.

​Mr. Ajibola emphasized that these stringent measures are a core part of the administration’s broader agenda to reposition and rebrand the polytechnic into a safer, more conducive environment for learning. The management urged the general public, staff, and students to cooperate fully with the security personnel to maintain order and tranquility on campus.
