
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) recently celebrated an outstanding achievement by a young scholar from Bayelsa State, Keme Precious Numa, who was awarded the prestigious title of Best Overall Male Candidate in Public Schools across Nigeria in the 2024 WAEC examination. The accolade was conferred during WAEC’s 63rd Annual Meeting held in Umuahia, Abia State.
Keme, a dedicated science student from Ido Comprehensive Secondary School in Egbemo-Angalabiri, Ekeremor Local Government Area, distinguished himself with an exceptional academic record. He achieved straight A1 grades in eight subjects, including English Language, General Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a commendable B2 in Agricultural Science.

In recognition of his stellar performance, WAEC awarded Keme a cash prize of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000). The award ceremony saw the presence of dignitaries including Bayelsa State’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, Mr. Simon Peter Okene. Keme’s Principal, Mrs. Jane Wareyai Emomotimi, alongside family members including his mother Mrs. Timi Numa and grandfather Chief Ebiama Ofonibenhen, also graced the event.

This accolade reflects not only Keme’s dedication and hard work but also highlights Bayelsa State’s rising prominence in academic excellence within Nigeria’s public school sector. It serves as a beacon of inspiration for other young students in the state and across the nation to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.
