The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture hosted the 2025 Culture Quiz Competition for Senior Secondary Schools on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at its temporary office in Shangisha, Magodo. The competition, aimed at preserving and promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, featured participants from Gbaja Girls Senior High School, Surulere; Oriwu Senior Model College, Igbogbo; and Vetland Senior Grammar School, Ifako Ijaiye.

Mr. Idowu Johnson, CEO of the Council, emphasized the necessity of instilling cultural values in the youth to preserve their identity. The event included three segments: Essay Writing on Culture, Children’s Storytelling on Culture, and the Culture Quiz itself, designed to deepen students’ understanding of cultural identity. The Director of Research at the Council, Mr. Somoye Babafemi Olumide, expressed concern about foreign cultural influences on Nigerian youth and stressed the importance of reconnecting them with their roots.

Oriwu Senior Model College, Igbogbo, emerged as the overall winner and was recognized for its excellent performance. The competition acts as a preliminary stage for a national cultural quiz scheduled for November 2025.

Teachers praised the initiative as a much-needed effort in reviving cultural education, while students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about their heritage.
