The Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State is engulfed in sorrow following the sudden death of Honourable Zainab Adeshewa Shotayo, the only female councillor elected in the council.
Hon. Shotayo, who was 29 years old, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, after a brief illness that reportedly began the previous week. She had been recently inaugurated, serving as the representative for Ward C3 in the 6th Legislative House of the LCDA. Known for her dedication, she held the significant position of Chief Whip of the Legislative Arm, a role she used to champion the welfare of her constituents and inspire young women in leadership.
Her untimely demise has plunged the entire council secretariat in Ilupeju and the Odiolowo-Ojuwoye community into deep mourning. The council chairman, Honorable Seyi Jakande, expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing Hon. Shotayo as “not only the youngest member of the Council but also an exemplary leader whose resilience and commitment to public service were truly inspiring.”

In a statement released by his media office, Jakande highlighted her exemplary leadership and the void her passing leaves in the council. He extended heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and community members, emphasizing solidarity during this difficult period.
Hon. Shotayo’s death follows closely after the inauguration of the new council, which makes the loss even more shocking and tragic for the local government and its people, particularly at a time when female representation in local politics is critically needed.
Her legacy as a role model for aspiring female leaders in the community is expected to endure, even as the council and the community grapple with this profound loss.
