
Abeokuta, Ogun State — Dr. Kolawole Adekola, a distinguished academic from the University of Ibadan, has been elected Vice President of the World Archaeological Congress (WAC). The election took place during the 10th World Archaeological Congress held at Charles Darwin University, Australia, which concludes today, June 28, 2025.
Dr. Adekola joins an international leadership team that includes Ralph Jordan of Flinders University, Australia, who was elected President, and Sudeshna Biswas from the University of Delhi, India, who was elected Secretary.
The Congress attracted over 1,800 scholars from approximately 60 countries, with an additional 700 participants joining virtually from 10 global hubs, underscoring the event’s significance in the field of archaeology worldwide.


This election marks a notable achievement for Nigerian academia and highlights Dr. Adekola’s contributions to archaeological research and education on the global stage.
