Ekeremor, Bayelsa State – A new dawn is breaking for the riverine communities of Bayelsa West Senatorial District as Governor Douye Diri’s “Government of Assured Prosperity” officially commences construction on the highly anticipated Ekeremor-Agge Road. This monumental undertaking, which began with clearing, excavation, bond wall creation, and sand filling, marks a significant step towards fulfilling the long-held aspirations of the state’s founding fathers to unlock the vast potential of its aquatic landscape.
Following the successful completion of the Sagbama/Ekeremor section of the Bayelsa West Senatorial road, the focus has now shifted to extending this vital artery all the way to Agge community on the fringes of the Atlantic Ocean. The initial phase of this ambitious project specifically targets the stretch from Ekeremor main town to Toru-Ndoro community.
Governor Diri, hailed as a “change agent,” is simultaneously pushing forward with road construction across all three senatorial districts, aiming to connect them to the Atlantic Ocean at strategic points like Agge, Koluama, and Brass Island. This holistic approach underscores his administration’s commitment to integrated development and improved accessibility throughout the state.
The commencement of the Ekeremor-Agge road has sent ripples of excitement through the communities it is set to serve. Residents of Toru-Ndoro, Peretorugbene, Tamogbene, Aghoro, Amatu, Egbemo-Angalabiri, Agge, and other neighboring riverine communities in Ekeremor Local Government Area are in high spirits, eagerly anticipating the new road to provide a direct and much-needed link to the State capital, Yenagoa.
This road project is not merely about infrastructure; it represents a profound socio-economic transformation. By providing road access to these previously isolated communities, the Diri administration aims to stimulate local economies, ease transportation burdens, reduce travel time, and curb rural-urban migration. Furthermore, the long-term vision includes leveraging the road to enhance the potential for an Agge Deep Sea Port, a project that the Governor has consistently advocated for and is seen as a major gateway to national and international maritime trade.
The Ekeremor-Agge road has been a dream for over four decades, with past administrations making attempts to bring it to fruition. Governor Diri’s renewed vigor and visible progress on the ground signal a strong determination to see this vital link through to completion, promising a future of enhanced prosperity and connectivity for the people of Bayelsa West.
