No fewer than 610 soldiers from diverse formations across the Nigerian Army are currently undergoing the rigorous 2025 Nigerian Army Warrant Officers Promotional Training. The training is being conducted at the Federal Road Safety Corps Academy, Udi, Enugu State, over a two-week period designed to test and prepare master warrant officers for promotion to warrant officer rank.
The comprehensive training regimen includes compulsory medical examinations to assess candidates’ physical and mental fitness, physical training drills, weapon handling, written and computer-based tests for clerical personnel, and oral interviews. The rigorous process ensures that only the most qualified and disciplined candidates will succeed.
Maj.-Gen. Adewale Adekeye, Chief of Personnel Management at Army Headquarters, who officially opened the training, cautioned all participants against the use of hard drugs or performance-enhancing supplements. He highlighted that many candidates are over 50 years old, and the use of such substances could adversely affect their health and test performance.
Addressing the soldiers, Maj.-Gen. Adekeye commended their long years of service, commitment, and sacrifices to the nation. He stressed that the promotion board members, operating under the guidance of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, will objectively evaluate each candidate strictly on merit and performance.
“The role of a Nigerian Army Warrant Officer is significant and demanding,” Adekeye remarked. “Only candidates exhibiting exceptional discipline, professionalism, and merit will be promoted. Candidates must bring their best to each exercise and maintain integrity, as any form of cheating will be detrimental to their evaluations.”
Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, General Officer Commanding 82 Division, which is hosting the exercise, urged all soldiers to remain focused and disciplined. He assured that their welfare and security are paramount throughout the training and expressed confidence in the promotion board’s impartiality and firmness in assessment.
The rigorous training underscores the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to career development, discipline, and excellence among its warrant officers, ensuring that promotions reflect true merit and capability.
This exercise is part of the Army’s structured effort to promote eligible master warrant officers to the warrant officer rank in accordance with established guidelines and policies set forth in the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service for Soldiers (2024) and related administrative protocols.
