The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, citing alleged gross misconduct. This move follows a prolonged political standoff between the governor and the Assembly, which is largely loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike. The Assembly’s action is in line with Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution and comes after the Supreme Court affirmed the legitimacy of the Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
