​Tragedy in Abuja as Corps Member Slumps, Dies During Football Match

​ABUJA – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) community in the Federal Capital Territory has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a serving corps member (identity withheld pending family notification) who collapsed during a football match on Friday.

​The deceased was reportedly participating in a friendly kick-about with fellow corps members and local residents at a popular pitch in the heart of Abuja when the incident occurred. ​Medical experts suggest the cause of death may be linked to sudden cardiac arrest, a condition often triggered by undiagnosed heart issues during strenuous physical activity. This incident has reignited calls for mandatory comprehensive medical screenings for all youth corps members before they engage in intense sporting activities during their service year.

​The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue in the city, awaiting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
