Reps Donate ₦100 Million to Plateau Attack Victims, Governor Calls for Lasting Solutions

In a strong gesture of solidarity, the House of Representatives has donated ₦100 million to support victims of recent violent attacks in Plateau State. The intervention fund was presented to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang during a condolence visit by a delegation of federal lawmakers led by former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, acting on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

The relief package, delivered in the form of cheques, is aimed at alleviating the suffering of affected communities and supporting the Plateau State Government’s response efforts. The breakdown of the donation is as follows:

• ₦50 million to the Plateau State Government
• ₦20 million to Bassa Local Government Area
• ₦20 million to Bokkos Local Government Area
• ₦10 million to Riyom Local Government Area.

Rt. Hon. Wase emphasized that the donation is part of ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to mitigate the devastating impact of the attacks. He reaffirmed the Speaker’s commitment to mobilizing further federal support for Plateau State during this difficult period.

Governor Mutfwang expressed deep appreciation to the lawmakers for their unity and timely intervention, noting that the attacks have left many households homeless and children orphaned. He highlighted the urgent need for improved rural road networks and communication infrastructure to boost security and emergency response in vulnerable areas.

The governor also addressed another recent crisis: the fire outbreak at the makeshift Terminus Market in Jos, which destroyed the livelihoods of hundreds of traders. He described the incident as “a painful setback for hardworking Plateau citizens” and pledged swift government action to support affected traders, assuring that “no effort will be spared to ensure our traders bounce back stronger”.

The House of Representatives’ intervention follows earlier efforts by the Plateau State Government, which has distributed relief materials and provided free medical care to victims in the worst-hit communities, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The lawmakers’ donation and the governor’s calls for infrastructural improvements underscore the urgent need for both immediate relief and long-term solutions to the security and humanitarian challenges facing Plateau State.
