The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has intercepted seven young people found inside a room in the Agogo Ide Community Development Association (CDA) area of Obantoko, Abeokuta, during school hours on Thursday.
Five of the individuals are female Senior Secondary Two (SS2) students of Nawairudeen Secondary School, Obantoko. The remaining two are males described as school dropouts. The group was discovered at about 10:00 a.m. during a routine patrol by operatives of the Area Command led by Assistant Commander of Corps (ACC) Babatunde Ogunseye.
Details of the operation were contained in a statement issued by the Corps’ Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, on behalf of the State Commander, Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo.
Following the interception, the seven were taken to the principal of Nawairudeen Secondary School. The principal expressed appreciation for the Corps’ vigilance and promptly assembled the students before their schoolmates. She invited ACC Ogunseye to address them on the importance of discipline and responsible conduct.
In his remarks, Ogunseye urged the students to remain focused on their studies, uphold good moral values and avoid loitering in the Agogo Ide CDA and similar locations that could expose them to security risks or negative influences during school hours. He stressed that such behaviour could jeopardise their future.
Commander Ganzallo reaffirmed the So-Safe Corps’ commitment to youth protection and crime prevention. He called on parents, guardians, school authorities and community leaders to work closely together in guiding young people towards responsible behaviour and keeping them productively engaged during school hours.
The intervention underscores the Corps’ ongoing community-oriented approach, which combines routine patrols with preventive counselling aimed at steering teenagers away from potential dangers and social vices. No further criminal charges were reported in connection with the incident, which appears to have centred on truancy and the discovery of an unsupervised hideout during instructional time.
