The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, describing its first year in office as one of the most challenging periods in Nigeria’s history since the Civil War.
As President Tinubu marks his first year in office on Wednesday, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, urged him to prioritize effective governance, tackle corruption, and address the ongoing fuel crisis.
Ologunagba pointed out that the administration’s poorly conceived and executed policies have led to severe economic hardships, driving many Nigerians into extreme poverty.
He highlighted that rising insecurity, poverty, and economic difficulties are causing significant disillusionment among citizens, particularly the youth, many of whom are fleeing the country.
The PDP criticized the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the Naira, labeling these moves as anti-people policies that have exacerbated the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
Ologunagba mentioned that the arbitrary hike in electricity tariffs and the imposition of multiple taxes have further burdened already impoverished Nigerians without yielding tangible development benefits.
He emphasized that the adverse consequences of these policies, without adequate measures to cushion their effects, have driven many into early death and extreme poverty.

The PDP expressed concern over the administration’s inadequate attention to security, noting the ongoing killings, kidnappings, and attacks by bandits and terrorists across the nation.
Furthermore, Ologunagba accused the APC of using poverty as a tool of mass destruction, leading to widespread despondency where citizens are more focused on survival than engaging with government policies.
He also criticized the government’s handling of the fuel subsidy removal, alleging that trillions of naira continue to be paid as subsidies into private bank accounts linked to corrupt APC leaders without transparency or accountability.
The PDP urged President Tinubu to reflect on his administration’s performance over the past year, critically evaluate his policies, and present a coherent economic plan aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
They called for concrete measures to address the significant economic and security challenges facing the country and to combat corruption within the administration.
In summary, the PDP highlighted the massive loss of jobs, high unemployment and inflation rates, and the severe devaluation of the Naira as key indicators of the administration’s failure.
They stressed the need for the government to take urgent steps to restore hope and stability in the country by implementing effective policies that enhance the welfare and security of its citizens.
