Mrs Muinat Jaji, the General Manager of Ogun State Water Corporation, has issued a stern warning against the use of explosive materials for blasting rocks to access water, citing the potential environmental and structural damage it can cause.
Speaking at the celebration of World Water Day at the corporation’s office in Oke Mosan, Jaji emphasized the risks associated with such practices, including weakening the earth’s foundations and posing a threat to the stability of houses in the affected areas.
She urged community leaders to discourage and report any individuals engaged in such activities, emphasizing that the state government would not tolerate such actions.
Furthermore, Jaji encouraged communities that lack access to public water to approach the state government through the Water Corporation to make their requests known.

She assured that the second phase of the water project would commence soon, aiming to extend water supply to more areas in the state.
Jaji highlighted the government’s efforts in laying pipes and providing meters to improve water accessibility, noting that 50 percent of people in Abeokuta now enjoy steady public water supply through metered connections.
Additionally, Jaji cautioned against tampering with meters and pipelines, warning that the corporation would deploy officers to monitor and punish offenders.
She appealed to the government to assist the corporation in repairing pipes damaged during road construction projects and expedite the implementation of the second phase of pipe laying in areas currently without access to water.
