….. Leadership Counters Chairperson’s Position
The Ogun State Executive Committee of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has again rejected and condemned the alleged visit by the party’s State Chairperson, Ambassador Yeye Olufunke Olanrewaju, to Otunba Segun Sowunmi, describing the move as personal, unilateral, and inconsistent with the party’s constitution.
In a statement issued by the State Secretary of the party, Alhaji Tajudeen Durosinmi, the leadership maintained that no approval was given for any negotiation or political alignment aimed at offering the party’s 2027 governorship ticket to a non-member.
According to Durosinmi, the visit — which was presented as an attempt to expand party membership — amounts to “an afterthought and an affront to the ADP constitution.”
He added that decisions regarding party nominations and alliances cannot be taken unilaterally.
“The ADP is not a trading ground for political favours or personal interests. It is a movement built on integrity and the collective aspirations of the masses,”
Durosinmi stated.
The party leadership reaffirmed support for its 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. Shokunbi O. Kazzem, noting that the ADP remains committed to transparent, legal, and constitutionally approved procedures for admitting new members and potential aspirants.
“Our party leadership and members are focused on programmes that promote socioeconomic development and inclusive governance. We urge members to resist involvement in meetings or negotiations that do not represent the party structure or mandate,”
the statement added.
The party called on members to remain united and protect the integrity of the platform as preparations for the new political year begin.
“As we enter the New Year, we extend warm wishes to all members. May the year bring unity, purpose, and progress in our political journey,”
Durosinmi concluded.
