NPF Appoints Iniedu Okokon as New Force Spokesperson

​ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a swift shake-up in its public relations department, appointing Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Iniedu Okokon as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO). 

​Mr Okokon takes over national police communications with immediate effect. He succeeds Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid, who was removed from the post just three months into his tenure.

​A Sudden Leadership Reshuffle

​The sudden reassignment has caught many by surprise. DCP Placid was appointed as the image-maker of the police force in March 2026, a few days after Olatunji Disu took office as the 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP).

​While the police high command has not officially released a detailed statement regarding the reasons behind the quick reshuffle, Mr Placid confirmed his exit via a brief text message response. High-level sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja indicated that the outgoing spokesperson has already been redeployed to lead the Finance and Administration unit at the Lagos State Police Command.

​The Lagos post became vacant following the recent passing of its previous head, DCP Khan Salihu, who died after a brief illness.

​Meet the New Image-Maker

​The newly appointed spokesperson, CSP Iniedu Okokon, brings significant experience in internal accountability and public oversight to the national role. Before his new assignment, Mr Okokon served as the head of the police Complaint Response Unit (CRU)—a division tasked with tracking, investigating, and resolving public grievances against police misconduct.

​Under the new communication structure, Mr Okokon will take over primary media operations and traditional press relations. Meanwhile, the recently established Force New Media unit will remain under the leadership of CSP Aliyu Giwa to handle the force’s digital and social communication strategy.
