Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State – Hope soared for the commencement of commercial flight operations at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport as officials from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) concluded crucial flight checks and procedure validation at the facility. The NAMA team, led by Engr. Miri Selzing, Manager, Flight Calibration Services, expressed satisfaction with the airport’s infrastructure following their thorough assessment.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement released yesterday, lauded the NAMA officials for their professionalism and meticulous evaluation. He highlighted the positive feedback received regarding the airport’s facilities, including its impressive 4-kilometre runway, the longest in Nigeria, and its well-appointed terminal building. This, according to the Governor, reaffirms the state government’s dedication to establishing a world-class aviation hub in Ogun State.
The NAMA team specifically acknowledged the quality and speed of the project’s execution and offered valuable guidance on the installation of essential navigational aids such as the Instrument Landing System (ILS). Their commitment to providing ongoing support as the airport nears completion signals a strong collaborative partnership between the Ogun State government and federal aviation authorities.
Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the state’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, confirmed that NAMA successfully conducted the “23 and 05” checks and identified crucial waypoints, marking another significant step towards final approval for commercial operations. With the airport now at an advanced 97 percent completion stage, boasting a functional control tower, air traffic control systems, and fire safety units, Ogun State is firmly on track to becoming a major center for both cargo and passenger traffic in Nigeria.
Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the Gateway International Airport not only stimulates economic growth within Ogun State but also sets a benchmark for aviation infrastructure across the African continent. He extended his gratitude to the NAMA team for their encouraging assessment and technical support, emphasizing the collective effort in shaping the future of air transport in Nigeria.
