On the 27th of August 2025, along Tapa Street off Sura, Lagos Island, a violent incident unfolded involving a notorious local thug identified as Adio Shamusideen, also known by the nickname “Shamelon.” The suspect reportedly accosted a Keke Marwa operator, assaulting him in an attempt to extort money. When a passenger, Mr. Ramon Imam, bravely intervened to stop the assault and protect the operator, he became the victim of Shamusideen’s brutality.
Eyewitnesses recount that instead of ceasing his attack, Shamusideen turned his aggression towards Mr. Imam, beating him severely to the point of coma. Mr. Imam was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away three weeks later, on September 17, 2025.
Just a day before, on September 17, 2025, the same suspect was implicated in another violent attack, this time against a dispatch rider. The assault left the rider comatose, and he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of September 18, 2025.

These deadly incidents sparked an immediate police response. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Adio Shamusideen on September 18, 2025, at the Central Police Station. Authorities have launched investigations into the matter.
Residents and eyewitnesses have expressed grave concerns, citing Shamusideen’s known history of violence and past allegations of attacking individuals leading to deaths within Lagos Island. They fear a repeat of the past, where similar cases involving this suspect allegedly ended with his release without justice served.

Community leaders and victims’ families are now calling on Lagos State authorities and the judiciary to uphold the rule of law and ensure that the accused faces rigorous prosecution, to deter such violent crimes and restore safety to the public.
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges involving armed street thugs, known locally as agberos, particularly affecting public transport operators and commuters in Lagos Island.
The Lagos State Police has assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently
