Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has revealed that his official monthly salary stands at ₦503,000, placing him significantly behind top state civil servants.
Speaking in Asaba during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes and the presentation of official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, the governor disclosed that Permanent Secretaries in the state earn ₦900,000 monthly, while the Head of Service takes home ₦1 million.
According to Oborevwori, the salary structure was adjusted upward following concerns raised by Permanent Secretaries that senior directors were earning salaries close to theirs.
Key Highlights of the Governor’s Address:
- Civil Servant Welfare: The state prioritizes workforce development through vehicle and housing loan schemes, agricultural support inputs, and management training in partnership with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
- Minimum Wage & 13th Month: Delta was among the first states to implement the new national minimum wage in full. An executive bill is also being sent to the House of Assembly to make the payment of a 13th-month salary mandatory from December 2026 onwards.
- Merit-Based Appointments: The recent appointment of 12 Permanent Secretaries ensured every local government area in the state is represented, executed strictly on merit without political interference.
Oborevwori charged both civil servants and political appointees to maintain high standards of accountability, shun corruption, and properly upkeep the newly provided infrastructure.
