
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has confirmed the death of four persons, while nine others sustained injuries in a lone accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
Spokesperson for the FRSC in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, stating that the crash, which took place at 8:30 p.m., was caused by speeding and a tyre burst, leading to loss of control.
“The suspected causes of the lone crash were speed violation and a tyre burst, which led to loss of control. The vehicle, marked FKJ 570 YE, crashed,” she said.
According to Okpe, a total of 13 passengers were involved in the crash, comprising five men and eight women. She explained that two men and two women lost their lives, while three men and six women sustained injuries.
She further stated that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS morgue in Ipara.
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, cautioned motorists to remain focused while driving and regularly inspect their vehicles for possible faults.
He advised motorists to adhere to the prescribed speed limits for different vehicle categories to ensure safety on the roads. Fasakin also urged fleet operators to install speed limit devices and prioritise road safety at all times.
