AWKA — The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has drawn a definitive line in its 2027 electoral strategy, clarifying that its endorsement of President Bola Tinubu does not extend to candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) vying for legislative seats.
In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, the National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, warned Anambra voters to be wary of “deceptive” campaign materials. The clarification follows the emergence of posters across the state featuring images of Governor Chukwuma Soludo alongside President Tinubu and various APC aspirants for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly.
The ‘Progressive’ Alliance Explained
According to Obigwe, the mantra “Progressives are working together,” often cited by Governor Soludo, refers strictly to the strategic governance partnership between the Anambra State Government and the Presidency. He emphasized that this administrative synergy should not be misconstrued as a political merger or an endorsement of APC’s local candidates.
”The declaration of our National Leader, Governor Soludo, is about an unapologetic support for President Tinubu’s re-election. However, the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly elections in Anambra are a must-win for APGA,” Obigwe stated.
Protecting APGA’s Territory
The party accused “drowning” opposition politicians of attempting to capitalize on the Governor’s relationship with the President to gain unmerited electoral leverage. Obigwe insisted that APGA remains the dominant force in Anambra and will field its own candidates to sweep all legislative seats in the upcoming general elections.
The statement further clarified:
”Soludo will lead the campaign for Anambra electorates to support President Tinubu’s re-election and APGA’s yet-to-be-produced candidates. In Anambra, the formula is: Tinubu for President, APGA for everything else.”
Political Context
This development comes amid a shifting political landscape in Anambra, where Governor Soludo—recently re-elected in late 2025—has increasingly positioned APGA as a “progressive ally” to the center. While this has fostered a smooth working relationship with the Tinubu administration, it has created friction with local APC chapters who are eager to displace APGA’s long-standing grip on the state’s legislative structure.
By isolating the Presidency from the legislative races, APGA aims to maintain its “home-grown” identity while securing federal goodwill—a tightrope walk that will define the state’s political climate heading into 2027.
