Lagos residents received a glowing commendation from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following the successful reinstatement of the monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise this past Saturday. Citizens across the state’s five divisions—Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe—turned out in significant numbers to clear drains and sanitize their immediate surroundings.
The Governor expressed deep appreciation for the “patriotic enthusiasm” shown by residents, noting that the collective effort reflects the resilient “Spirit of Lagos.” He emphasized that reclaiming the culture of cleanliness is a vital step toward ensuring public health and safety for all inhabitants of the Mega City.
Proactive Measures Against Flood Risks
With the rainy season approaching, Governor Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to issue a stern warning against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse. This appeal comes on the heels of recent weather forecasts predicting heavy rainfall this year.
To mitigate the risk of flash floods, the state government has already mobilized a massive desilting operation targeting major gutters and primary drainage systems. This effort is being bolstered by a collaborative strategic campaign between the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and the Ministry of Information and Strategy, aimed at sensitizing the public on responsible waste management.

The state government remains committed to ensuring that the drains remain free-flowing to protect lives and property during the peak of the rains.
