A sprawling private residence in Amukwa, Nsukka, has officially opened its doors as the Maduka University Teaching Hospital, marking a monumental shift in community healthcare access. The newly commissioned facility at 37 Orba Road began operations with a deeply personal gesture from the institution’s founder and chancellor, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi, who surrendered his own personal home to serve the common good.

- A Visionary Sacrifice: Rather than building from scratch or leaving his elegant residence for private comfort, the chancellor converted the spacious, arched-window property into a fully functional medical center driven by the motto, “Service to Humanity.”
- Historic First Patients: In a humble start to operations, Dr. Onyishi himself registered as the facility’s very first patient after traveling early from Ekwegbe, followed closely by Mr. Anslem Ugwu—with the chancellor personally covering the initial fees for both.
- Comprehensive Care Units: The new hospital is fully equipped to alleviate regional travel burdens by offering robust services, including 24-hour emergency care, outpatient and inpatient admissions, advanced radiology, laboratory diagnostics, and specialized maternity and child health programs.
By combining rigorous clinical training for the next generation of medical professionals with accessible everyday care, the teaching hospital aims to redefine health standards across Nsukka and its surrounding communities.
