President Bola Tinubu has declared that political power belongs to Allah and can be taken from him and given to another person at any time, making the sobering admission during a rare spiritual privilege: praying inside the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah during his Umrah pilgrimage.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, following the President’s return from Saudi Arabia, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE PRAYER
Tinubu described the experience as historic and deeply cherished, thanking the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for granting him and his delegation access to the sacred site.
“I want to say a big thank you for the faith, for the recognition. I can’t believe the fencing of the Ka’abah is in Green-White-Green, which reminds us of the Nigerian identity,” Tinubu said. “It is an honour that I enjoyed, and it is gracious of them to have allowed me to enter inside the Ka’abah. This is history” .
He disclosed that his prayers centred on obtaining wisdom and resilience to continue serving Nigerians. “Well, I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that prayer has been granted,” he said.
THE ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF DIVINE AUTHORITY
Reflecting on Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26, Tinubu emphasised that political authority is a trust from God that must be exercised with humility.
He acknowledged that the same authority can be withdrawn at any time. “There is no other God but Almighty Allah. He is the giver and the taker. He owns power and authority. He says, ‘If I give you, use it well. If you don’t use it in accordance with my dictates, I can take it from you and give it to another person. I am the only One who has that authority,'” he said.
THE ECONOMIC OUTLOOK
Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory, describing the foundation laid by his administration as solid.
“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” he said .
He stressed the importance of investing in young Nigerians, warning that the decisions of today’s leaders would shape their legacy.
“We need to build a future for our youth. If we don’t invest in their future, how do we want to be remembered as leaders 50 years from now? That’s the main thing,” he added .
THE DELEGATION
The President was accompanied by a high-profile delegation, including Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Coordinating Minister of Health Muhammad Ali Pate; and the governors of Borno, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Yobe and Kwara States. Business leaders, including BUA Group Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu and Oando CEO Wale Tinubu, were also present .
WHY IT MATTERS
President Tinubu’s declaration is a remarkable statement from a sitting President seeking re-election.
By acknowledging that power belongs to Allah and can be taken from him, he is framing the 2027 election as a divine test, not merely a political contest. He is also signalling humility—a quality that critics have often accused him of lacking.
But the statement is also political. By declaring that the economy has emerged from the “dark tunnel,” he is making a direct claim about the success of his reforms.

And by emphasising youth investment, he is appealing to a demographic that will be critical in the 2027 election.
The President has prayed for wisdom. The electorate will decide whether he has used it well. ValidViewNetwork reports.
