Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of taking steps to rig the 2027 general elections, warning that any attempt to manipulate the polls would be resisted.
The Dino Melaye INEC rigging 2027 warning was issued in a post on his X handle on Sunday, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE ACCUSATION
Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, claimed that recent activities by the electoral body suggested what he described as “anticipatory rigging” . “The activities of INEC in recent times point at anticipatory rigging. Which will be resisted,” Melaye wrote .
He also called on the commission to redeem its image ahead of the 2027 elections . “INEC must be born again this time because we will not allow rigging. Rig and say your final prayer,” he added.
THE CONTEXT
Melaye’s comments came amid controversy over the discovery of AI-generated photographs in INEC’s preliminary voters’ register, as well as complaints by political parties over the omission of some candidates from the commission’s final list .
The commission has since flagged 268 records for suspected AI-generated photos and irregularities, vowing to clean the register before certification on December 15, 2026 .
WHY IT MATTERS
Dino Melaye is one of Nigeria’s most vocal political critics, and his allegations carry weight among opposition supporters who already distrust INEC.
The commission’s admission that its register was compromised has given ammunition to those who believe the 2027 election is being manipulated before a single vote is cast. Melaye’s warning is a signal that the opposition will be watching INEC closely.
The commission has promised to clean up the register. Whether it can restore confidence before the election remains to be seen. ValidViewNetwork reports.
