Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has thrown his weight behind Seyi Tinubu, suggesting the entrepreneur and youth leader possesses the requisite credentials to steer the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the future.
Speaking as a guest on John Obi Mikel’s The Obi One Podcast, the former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward emphasized that Nigerian football administration requires vibrant, younger leadership attuned to the yearnings of the populace.
“I think Seyi Tinubu can be the president of NFF. He’s young and understands what Nigerians want. He’s not the president yet, but he’s making efforts,” Martins stated.
The endorsement arrives at a critical juncture for Nigerian football administration, which has recently faced intense scrutiny and restructuring following high-profile resignations within the federation and nationwide calls for a comprehensive overhaul of sports management. Stakeholders have increasingly advocated for progressive reforms to revive the fortunes of national teams and revamp domestic structures.
While Seyi Tinubu has not formally declared any ambition to run for the NFF presidency, Martins’ comments have added fresh momentum to ongoing discussions regarding the future direction and leadership architecture of football governance in the country.
