Four Held in Ondo Over Viral PoS Fraud Vigilante Assault

​AKURE — The Ondo State Police Command has taken four individuals into custody following the brutal assault, public humiliation, and subsequent cyberbullying of a resident, Temidayo Boluwaji, over alleged Point of Sales (PoS) fraud.

​The incident, which took place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, quickly drew public outrage after video footage of the altercation went viral across multiple social media platforms.

​According to police reports, Boluwaji was accused by a local PoS operator of executing fraudulent electronic transfers. Rather than reporting the grievance to law enforcement, a mob of angry youths took matters into their own hands. The viral recording captured the victim being subjected to intense physical abuse, culminating in him being forced to balance a PoS machine on his head while dancing under duress.

​The state command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed that the breakthrough came after the victim formally lodged a complaint at the Okuta Elerinla Police Station on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m.

​Boluwaji detailed to investigators that he was physically battered by a coordinated group of individuals who recorded the ordeal without his consent and intentionally distributed the footage online to ruin his reputation.

​Acting on the petition, the command mobilized operatives to launch a discreet intelligence-gathering and manhunt operation. This effort resulted in the apprehension of four prime suspects identified as Gbemisola Ariyo, Babatunde Eniola, Adams Tobiloba, and Fasusi Bunmi, all of whom have been implicated in the attack.

​In an official statement released by the command, the police leadership strongly condemned the rising wave of jungle justice and self-help across communities. The command warned that it will no longer tolerate citizens resorting to physical violence, public parades, and malicious cyberbullying against individuals suspected of criminal acts, emphasizing that due process of the law must always take precedence.

​The arrested suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities assuring that other fleeing participants captured in the video footage will soon be brought to justice.
