The Nigerian diaspora in Poland has formally welcomed Mrs. Chioma Priscilla Ohakim, the newly appointed Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Poland. The reception, held in Warsaw this weekend, signaled a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between the two nations, with community leaders expressing high expectations for her tenure.
Mrs. Ohakim, a legal practitioner and former First Lady of Imo State, was received by a delegation of Nigerians residing in Poland, including representatives from various diaspora organizations. During the event, the Chairman of the APC Support Group and leader of the City Boy Movement in Poland, Adekunle Ayoola, praised her appointment, noting that it reflects her extensive record in public service and leadership.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Community leaders highlighted the importance of her mission, aiming to deepen collaboration in key sectors. “We look forward to a new era of enhanced cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, education, technology, and cultural exchange,” Ayoola stated, adding that the diaspora remains committed to the “Renewed Hope Agenda” and promoting Nigeria’s image abroad.
Dr. Emanuel Kalejaiye, Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Community in Poland, emphasized that the ties between the two countries have flourished for over four decades. He expressed confidence that Mrs. Ohakim’s leadership would foster greater transparency and engagement between the Nigerian Embassy and its citizens in the region.
Commitment to Service
In her response, Mrs. Ohakim expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to dedicate her time as ambassador to fortifying the diplomatic, economic, and cultural bonds between Nigeria and Poland. She urged the diaspora community to maintain unity and pledged to work closely with them to advance national interests.
The event, which was also attended by her husband, former Governor of Imo State Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, underscored the strong spirit of the Nigerian diaspora in supporting national development initiatives.
Background on the Ambassador-designate
Mrs. Chioma Ohakim is a distinguished professional with a background in business administration and law. A graduate of Yaba College of Technology and Imo State University, she is also a member of the National Institute (MNI) after graduating from the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). Her appointment is part of a broader diplomatic deployment approved by President Bola Tinubu earlier this year to fill key ambassadorial positions globally.
