Officers from the Bayelsa State Police Command have taken two suspects—a 68-year-old father and his 36-year-old son—into custody for the unlawful possession of firearms. The arrest marks a tactical success in the ongoing effort to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons across the state.
The suspects, identified as Tibi Friday and his son, Oyabrade Tibi, both hailing from the Futoro Gbene community in Ekeremor Local Government Area, were intercepted at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026.
According to the police report, the duo was traveling in a commercial tricycle along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa when they were flagged down by operatives from the Command’s Anti-Vice Unit during a routine stop-and-search operation. Upon inspecting the tricycle, officers discovered four single-barrel guns hidden inside a sack and cleverly concealed beneath a layer of sticks.
Preliminary interrogations indicated that the suspects were en route to Abua in neighbouring Rivers State at the time of the interception.
