The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has challenged Nigerian students to adopt strict moral uprightness, stressing that the nation’s fight against corruption hinges heavily on deep-rooted personal integrity.
The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, delivered this charge during an interactive session with members of the Integrity Club at the Anglican Girls Grammar School in Apo, Abuja.
Representing the EFCC boss, the Head of Radio and Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE), Nwanyinma Okeanu, emphasized that integrity is an indispensable foundation for personal success and national rebranding.
“We are here to remind you that integrity is a core value the EFCC holds dear,” Okeanu stated. “Without it, longevity in success is impossible. Integrity must guide everything you do, and it has to start with you.”
She urged the students to act as positive ambassadors for their families and institution, noting that their choices today directly shape the trajectory of Nigeria’s future.
Championing Prevention and Cyber Safety
Also speaking at the event, the Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE II), Aisha Mohammed, detailed the statutory mandate of the commission, which spans prevention, investigation, and prosecution.
Mohammed explained that the EFCC’s engagement with primary and secondary school clubs is a deliberate preventive strategy designed to instill ethical values early in life. She further cautioned the students against the pitfalls of digital vulnerability, specifically raising awareness about the growing threat of online sextortion.
“Do not engage in compromising activities with your smartphones. Avoid sharing explicit or private images on the internet,” Mohammed warned. “Sextortion has had devastating consequences for many young people. We are counting on you to stand out and help us change the narrative, as the EFCC cannot fight corruption alone.”
A Commitment to Ethical Leadership
Responding on behalf of the institution, the Head of the school’s Integrity Club, Maton Dorcas, expressed gratitude to the anti-graft agency and the school administration for facilitating the session. Characterizing the dialogue as highly impactful, Dorcas assured the commission that the students would actively implement the ethical lessons received and remain steadfast foot soldiers in the advocacy for a corrupt-free society.
