Army Foils Major Terror Blitz in Borno, Arrests Key Insurgent Backers

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Frontline troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have averted what could have been a catastrophic assault on a Borno community. In a series of aggressive encounters, the military successfully repelled a multi-pronged terrorist raid, dismantled a critical logistics supply pipeline, and rescued local citizens held in captivity.

​The operational breakthrough, which occurred just ahead of mid-week, underscores the military’s ongoing strategy to choke off the mobility and supply corridors utilized by remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

​Showdown at Gajibo

​The most significant confrontation took place at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajibo. According to official military correspondence released late Tuesday by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, a heavily armed faction of Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents advanced on the town from multiple directions using a fleet of motorcycles.

​Alert troops detected the movement early, staging a swift counter-offensive. Utilizing heavy firepower and targeted mortar placements, the troops forced the insurgents into a chaotic retreat into the surrounding bush.

​While no military casualties were recorded during the gun battle, subsequent exploitation of the withdrawal route yielded a cache of abandoned ammunition and tactical combat accessories.

​Beyond the battlefield, military intelligence secured vital arrests targeting the insurgents’ urban support networks.

• ​The Gubio Arrests: In a joint operation with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), troops apprehended two suspected Boko Haram intelligence collaborators operating under the guise of cattle rearers in Gubio town.
• ​The Gwoza Takedown: Acting on actionable data from a newly surrendered insurgent associate, troops tracked down and arrested a high-value logistics supplier identified as Umar Ahmadu in Gwoza. Military officials stated that Ahmadu has confessed to facilitating multiple shipments of essential supplies to active terrorist hideouts.

​Enclaves Crumble Under Pressure

​The intensifying military blockade in the region is reportedly triggering internal collapse within the remaining insurgent strongholds. Along the strategic Gwoza–Limankara axis, a 17-year-old relative of an active fighter fled a mountain enclave in the Mandara Mountains to surrender to frontline units. Preliminary debriefings indicate severe shortages of food, medicine, and basic operational necessities inside the camps.

​Concurrently, tactical units intercepted and safely recovered two male hostages who had managed to slip away from their captors in Mafa town under the cover of poor visibility. The rescued individuals have been moved to a military medical facility for clinical evaluation before being reunited with their families.
