OGUN 2027 — The Media Team of Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo has formally condemned what it described as “coordinated provocation” and “distributive conduct” against the Ogun governorship aspirant during the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention in Abuja.
The reaction follows the emergence of video footage showing groups of individuals targeting the former Senator and other aspirants with derogatory chants and the disruptive use of talking drums. The Media Team described the atmosphere as a stark departure from the maturity and decorum expected at a high-level national political gathering.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the team expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that such hostility undermines the spirit of unity essential for the party’s progress.
”We find these actions deeply troubling, particularly in a setting that demands mutual respect among leaders,” the statement read. While the team refrained from naming specific sponsors, it pointed to the “visible proximity and apparent inaction of key figures” from opposing camps, suggesting that such behaviour sets a worrisome tone for the upcoming political contest in Ogun State.
ValidVieNetwork reports that despite the friction, the Senator’s team maintained a stance of non-retaliation. The campaign reaffirmed its commitment to “dignity, discipline, and democratic values,” explicitly rejecting political intimidation in all forms.
”We commend our supporters and the people of Ogun State for bringing this matter to light and, more importantly, for exercising remarkable restraint,” the team added. “We urge all our followers to remain calm and law-abiding. Under no circumstances should anyone respond with negativity or abuse.”
The Obasanjo camp emphasized that its focus remains squarely on “issue-based politics,” prioritizing policy and progress over “theatrics or disruption” ValidViewNetwork reports.
The statement further affirmed that, as the race for Ogun State’s future intensifies, the Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Team remains resolute in its mission to offer a professional and disciplined alternative for the electorate.
