President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a fresh list of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation. This new batch includes high-profile personalities such as Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff; Ita Enang, former senator and presidential aide; Chioma Ohakim, ex-First Lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff.
The nominations come shortly after an earlier list of ambassadorial nominees was sent to the Senate, indicating President Tinubu’s ongoing effort to fill key diplomatic positions. These nominees represent a mix of political veterans and former service chiefs, highlighting the administration’s focus on blending political experience with security expertise in its foreign affairs strategy. The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has been directed to screen the nominees and submit its report within a week.
This development follows President Tinubu’s recall of all Nigerian ambassadors in September 2023 and the subsequent forwarding of ambassadorial lists since then. Confirmation of these nominees will see them posted to strategic diplomatic missions worldwide, representing Nigeria’s interests and strengthening its foreign relations .
