In a tragic early morning assault on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, armed bandits abducted 25 female students and killed the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku. The attack unfolded around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, when the assailants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, stormed the school premises.
According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the gunmen engaged on-duty police officers in a fierce shootout before scaling the perimeter fence to abduct the students from their hostel quarters. During the encounter, Hassan Makuku, the Vice Principal, was fatally shot while trying to protect the students, and a school security guard, Ali Shehu, was injured by gunfire.
Promptly responding to the crisis, Commissioner of Police Bello Muhammad Sani deployed additional tactical police units, military personnel, and vigilante groups in a coordinated search and rescue operation. Security teams are combing nearby forests and routes suspected to be used by the kidnappers in efforts to locate and safely recover the abducted students.
Governor Ahmed Idris has condemned the despicable assault and pledged full government support for the rescue efforts. Residents of Maga are urged to remain calm yet vigilant as security forces work tirelessly to restore peace and safety in the area.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of violent attacks targeting educational institutions in northern Nigeria, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities and schools.
