FUTA to withdraw certificates of graduates found guilty of misconduct

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, has warned that it will withdraw the certificate of any alumnus found guilty of misconduct.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, issued the warning on Friday at the 36th Convocation and Award of First Degrees of the university, where 2,747 students graduated.

Oladiji urged the graduates to turn current economic challenges into opportunities for creativity and innovation, adding that their character would play a defining role in their future.

“As it is often said, no man can climb beyond the limits of his character. Your character would determine how far you would go in life.

“Bear in mind also, the university reserves the right to withdraw your certificate if you misrepresent her anywhere.

“Our earnest expectation is that you will become alumni to be proud of in no distant future.

“I therefore admonish you to continue to uphold the values that FUTA holds dear. By all means, remain men and women of noble character.

“Skills can take you to the top, but you require character to remain there,” she said.

The vice-chancellor said FUTA had received numerous accolades locally and internationally due to the accomplishments of its graduates, adding that the university would continue to support its alumni when necessary.

Oladiji explained that 2,747 students were awarded first degrees for the 2024/2025 academic session, including 240 First Class graduates.

She said 1,479 students attained Second Class (Upper Division), 912 Second Class (Lower Division), and 116 Third Class.

According to her, Aduragbemi Akindunbi, from the Department of Civil Engineering, emerged as the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.98.

Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Nora Daduut, commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, describing it as a plan aimed at lifting the country to greater heights and enhancing its international standing.

Daduut highlighted the achievements of the institution’s governing council, noting that it had maintained a cordial relationship with staff and students.

She added that staff welfare remained a priority, with the council ensuring constant training and capacity building to enhance productivity.

According to her, no fewer than 3,000 students have benefited from the students’ loan scheme introduced under President Tinubu’s initiative aimed at easing access to tertiary education.

The pro-chancellor noted that despite funding constraints, FUTA recorded progress during the 2024/2025 academic session.

She urged the graduating students to become agents of positive change in society.
