The Lagos State Police Command has successfully arrested five suspected cult members following a deadly confrontation between rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi communities of Badagry. The violent clash erupted late Saturday night, October 4, at approximately 10:00 p.m., leaving one person dead and three others injured.
According to the Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, police received an urgent distress call reporting the confrontation. Swift action by the command’s tactical squad and detectives led to the timely rescue of three victims who required immediate hospital care. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the Badagry General Hospital.
Following the clash, police launched an extensive raid of the area, which culminated in the arrest of five suspects allegedly involved in the killings and violent attack. The suspects, identified as Victor Christian (43), Samuel Success (29), Balogun Emmanuel (43), Wisdom Chukwuemeka (28), and Oche Job (39), were apprehended at a local hotel during the coordinated operation that prevented further bloodshed and restored peace in the affected communities.
Recovered from the suspects and their operational vehicle were a variety of weapons and other incriminating items, including one locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon vehicle (registration KTU 610 JB), laptops, multiple phones, cutlasses, and a Federal Republic of Nigeria passport. All items have been documented for ongoing investigations.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, lauded the tactical team for their prompt and effective response, emphasizing the command’s zero-tolerance stance on cult-related crimes across the state. He urged all residents to remain vigilant, comply with laws, and immediately report suspicious activities to the nearest police stations to aid in maintaining security and order.
Efforts continue to locate and apprehend other cult members still at large, with intensified patrols and surveillance to guard against potential retaliatory violence in the area.
