Wavinya Ndeti Oduwole, born on November 8, 1967, stands as a distinguished Kenyan politician currently serving as the Governor of Machakos County. She marked history in 2022 as the first female governor of the county after a persistent political pursuit spanning several election cycles. Beyond her remarkable political career, Wavinya shares a profound personal connection with Nigeria, having married Nigerian Prince Henry Oduwole in 1993.

The union of Wavinya and Prince Henry was built on deep mutual respect and love, enduring until his untimely passing in 2016 due to complications from high blood pressure while receiving treatment in Nairobi. Despite the loss, Wavinya has remained devoted to her late husband’s memory, choosing to focus on raising their three children and continuing her service to the people of Machakos County. She has publicly commemorated significant anniversaries of their marriage, reflecting on their enduring bond and her commitment to family.

With academic credentials in computer science earned from prestigious UK institutions, including London South Bank University, Wavinya’s professional journey began in the IT sector before transitioning fully into politics. She first entered elective politics as the Member of Parliament for Kathiani Constituency from 2007 to 2013, making history as the first woman to represent the area. During this time, she also served as Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, championing youth empowerment and sports development nationwide.

Her leadership is characterized by a blend of technical expertise, reform-oriented policies, and deep-rooted grassroots engagement.

Wavinya Ndeti’s story adds a unique dimension to Kenya’s political landscape, intertwining international personal ties with a steadfast dedication to public service, making her a notable figure both locally and beyond.
