The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a significant increase in fees for obtaining the Nigerian Standard Passport, effective September 1, 2025. According to the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the new fee structure will only apply to passport applications made within Nigeria.
Under the revised pricing, applicants seeking the 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will now pay ₦100,000, doubling the previous fee of ₦50,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport valid for ten years will cost ₦200,000, up from ₦100,000.

However, the fee increase does not affect Nigerians applying for passports outside the country. Those in the diaspora will continue to pay $150 for the 32-page passport and $230 for the 64-page option.
This latest adjustment comes barely a year after the last increase, which took effect from September 1, 2024, when the prices were raised from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000 for the 32-page, and from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000 for the 64-page passports.

The NIS stated that this fee revision aims to preserve the quality and integrity of Nigerian passports while balancing the need to keep the service accessible to all citizens.
Applicants are advised to prepare for the new charges when applying for passports within Nigeria starting next month.
