Lokoja, Kogi State – In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested forty-nine suspected internet fraudsters in various hideouts across Lokoja, the Kogi State capital. The arrests were made over the weekend, following actionable intelligence linking the suspects to widespread fraudulent internet activities.
During the coordinated operations, an unlicensed loaded pistol was recovered from one of the suspects, who reportedly claimed during preliminary interrogation to be a former cult member. This discovery highlights the dangerous nexus between cybercrime and other criminal elements.

Beyond the firearm, other incriminating items seized from the suspects include high-end smartphones, laptop computers, and two luxury vehicles, all believed to be proceeds or instruments of their illicit trade.
According to a statement released by the EFCC, the suspects will be thoroughly investigated and subsequently charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations. This raid comes as part of the EFCC’s continuous efforts to combat the rising tide of internet-related fraud across the country.
The identities of the arrested individuals have not yet been released by the EFCC, as investigations are still underway. This operation underscores the commission’s commitment to sanitizing the cyber space and bringing perpetrators of financial crimes to justice.
