Órán McConville, a former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, has tragically died at the age of 18 following a single-vehicle crash in County Down. The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 5, when Órán was traveling as a front-seat passenger.

Órán rose to prominence as part of St Patrick’s Primary School choir, which captivated audiences during their run on Britain’s Got Talent in 2017. The choir reached the semi-finals of the competition but was ultimately defeated by pianist Tokio Myers, who went on to win that season.
The teenager’s death is the latest in a series of devastating tragedies for his family. Just six weeks earlier, Órán’s father, Paddy McConville, passed away suddenly. The family had also endured the heartbreaking loss of Órán’s sister, Rachael, who was killed in a road accident at the age of 11. Órán was the youngest of three children and is survived by his mother and older brother.
A Requiem Mass held yesterday at Drumgath Parish Church drew an outpouring of grief from the local community. Father Charles Byrne, who led the service, spoke of the profound sorrow surrounding Órán’s passing.
“Órán’s tragic death early on Saturday morning has brought devastating shock and grief to his family, to his friends, to our local community here and the wider community around it,” Father Byrne said. “As we all know, just six weeks ago we were here for Órán’s father Paddy and 16 years ago you had the death of young Rachael.”

He added: “At this time we are all lost for words. Words are woefully inadequate to express the pain and sorrow in our hearts that we have for you.”
The community continues to rally around Órán’s grieving family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
