A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, labeling it as fundamentally “anti-democratic.”

It is important to recall that on March 18th, President Tinubu implemented a six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly, alongside the declaration of a state of emergency, citing the ongoing political crisis within the oil-rich state.
Speaking on Channels Television today, March 31st, Momodu expressed his deep disapproval of President Tinubu’s decision.
“I find it deeply regrettable. I have a long-standing personal acquaintance with President Tinubu. While we have not shared party affiliations, we were together during the exile period, and he was a staunch advocate for democracy. Therefore, many of us, his former comrades, are profoundly dismayed to witness what appears to be a regression, surpassing even the era of dictatorship, under a leader who once championed democratic principles.
I implore President Bola Tinubu, ‘Please, do not undermine democracy in Nigeria.’ All those who hold him in esteem will echo this sentiment. I have no personal requests or ulterior motives, but we value his past contributions to the democratic struggle, which are now seemingly being eroded,” Momodu stated.
The PDP chieftain further accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of employing intimidation tactics against the opposition, and issued a cautionary warning to the President, “watch your back.”

“I am publicly stating to millions of Nigerians that President Tinubu is being misled, and he must not allow himself to be deceived. He should simply focus on fulfilling his duties. The sole guarantee of a second term is to perform his responsibilities diligently. There is no need for intimidation,” he asserted.
