Doctors announced on Monday, 10th of March, that Pope Francis is no longer in imminent danger of death due to pneumonia, although he will remain hospitalized for further treatment. The 88-year-old pontiff’s condition has stabilized, with recent blood tests indicating improvements and positive responses to medication.
The Vatican reported that the doctors have lifted their previous “guarded” prognosis, confirming that the pope is no longer at immediate risk from the respiratory infection he was admitted for on February 14. However, they emphasized the need for continued medical therapy in a hospital setting due to the complexity of his clinical condition.
In a sign of his recovery, Pope Francis participated in the Vatican’s weeklong spiritual retreat via videoconference on Monday. He engaged in both morning and afternoon sessions while continuing his treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. Despite his hospitalization, he remains actively involved in church matters and is looking ahead to the 12th anniversary of his papacy, which is approaching this Thursday.
