Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, assured that the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) is actively pursuing the re-arrest of Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance Regional Africa Manager, who escaped custody in Nigeria.
Egbetokun made this statement on Thursday during a press briefing at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Anjarwalla, 38, fled from a ‘safe house’ on Friday, March 22, 2024, where he was detained along with a colleague. Despite not disclosing specific INTERPOL actions, Egbetokun affirmed ongoing efforts to bring Anjarwalla back into custody.

The Inspector General also highlighted the surge in kidnapping and murder cases over the past eight weeks, with 214 kidnapping cases and 537 homicides recorded. The police arrested 3,685 suspects involved in various crimes during this period and successfully rescued 401 kidnapping victims.
In response to the escalating internal security threats, Egbetokun emphasized the importance of proactive, technology-driven policing. He outlined strategic deployments and intelligence-driven operations to preempt criminal activities and swiftly apprehend perpetrators.
Moreover, Egbetokun reported progress made since the last conference held on February 8, 2024, including advancements in combating terrorism, murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The Nigeria Police Force’s efforts resulted in the arrest of thousands of suspects, the rescue of hundreds of kidnapping victims, and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and vehicles.
